Now that you're all set, let's get right into this latest issue #5:
Impulse Creations: In this issue, we find out what’s been driving Thunderbird. Can you elaborate a bit on where his mind’s been since his resurrection?
JOE CASEY: He's finally put himself in a situation where he thinks he's really going to be able to prove himself in a significant way, no matter what the cost. He feels like he's missed so much... that he was robbed of his destiny... that he didn't get his due. And, y'know, he might be right...!
IC: Much like using Agent Lundquist from X-Men last issue, in this issue we see Ben Grimm in his human form as he currently appears in the pages of Fantastic Four. He could have appeared as the Thing with the reader left to assume that this story takes place before or after current FF events and many creators might have done just that. What impact do you think it has on the story to show that this book is firmly set in the here and now of the larger Marvel universe?
JC: To be honest, it was more of a personal choice to put Ben Grimm in the story, knowing full well that he wasn't going to be the Thing at the time of publication. For me, it's all about the characters. I'm pretty sure it's been established that Logan and Ben are friends. I'm not talking about "Wolverine" and "the Thing" being superheroes that team up occasionally... but that the men behind the iconography are actually friends. I don't know if it had much impact on the story, but it certainly felt right, emotionally.
IC: Throughout these issue-by-issue interviews, we’ve talked mostly about the story from your side of the creative process but the art on Weapon X-Men has been nothing short of amazing. What has it been like working with ChrisCross on this book?
JC: It's always fun working with Cross. He's a first class artist and he definitely deserves to be on higher profile projects.
IC: As things wrap up, Cable has some cryptic words to share. Can we expect to see that play out at some point down the line?
JC: I'd like to think so. It's pretty epic, I've gotta say. One thing I've learned over the years is to never say never. Hell, I never thought I'd ever be writing an X-book again, and I just wrote a killer one.
That's a wrap for this issue and we hope you're loving Weapon X-Men as much as we are!
