• "There's One Iron Man Too Many!" – (17-page story) – In a story that resolves the mystery of the Baxter Building's computer malfunction last issue, Iron Man attacks the Fantastic Four in their headquarters -- not exactly the kind of help from Stark Industries that Reed was expecting! After a short battle the Golden Avenger succeeds in releasing the magnetic couplings designed to detach the FF's penthouse from the rest of the building in an emergency. With that the top five floors of the Baxter Building float into the air leaving the team stranded and their headquarters disappearing out of sight. The team visits Stark International to demand answers from Tony Stark himself. He, naturally, assures the FF that the Iron Man who attacked them is an impostor and promises the help of his bodyguard‚ in solving the mystery. The heroes track the missing building to an island in the Atlantic, and discover it is Quasimodo behind the abduction of their headquarters and the attack by the rogue Iron Man: apparently he has an urge to find his destiny in space ("I must touch the stars! Nothing else will suffice!") and needs the FF's equipment to do so. The foes do battle, but Quasimodo escapes using the FF's rocket ship. As he blasts off into space, Quasimodo feels the presence of a vast computer intelligence. Sensing a kindred spirit he determines to find it.

NOTE: This earlier version of the Iron Man Armor MK V did not require Tony Stark's briefcase. It was activated by an inner garment worn by Stark. Readers ask in later issues' letters page about the error. Marvel Comics was unable to give a proper explanation.
